In a recent highway accident my LS8 was lightly damaged. The Cobra trailer did a very good job protecting the glider. The damage to the glider was very limited. The largest damage was to the rudder because the tail strap pulled free of the mounting points. There was also damage to the trailing edge of one elevator and some abraisions where the wings swung out and struct the hinge points.

This photo shows the damaged rudder. The rudder struck the ramp and punctured a hole in the vertical housing for the tail.
This view shows the damage to the tiedown strap. The strap has been reattached at a new point just to one side of the old point. The strap did not fail. The strap stretched over the bolt that holds it to the floor. I suggest using two carrige bolts and a short steel plate between them wht the strap passing under the plate. This will prevent the strap from pulling free as it did in my trailer.
This shows the other side of the strap.
The trailing edge of the elevator got this minor dent where it struck the edge of the clamp.
This is what was holding the elevator at the point of impact. Perhaps a longer space at the edge so the thicker section will stop any sideward motion.
The accident was quite severe, note the damage to the car.
...and the front of the car.
