Story BridgeRepair created by Michael Newman

A repair of a small bridge was proposed to the Conservation Commission. The old bridge crossed the stream at the rear of the house at 401 Sandy Valley Road. The intent was to remove the old bridge and relocate it upstream a short distance where the stream banks are much higher and the bridge would not interfere with the flow of the stream.

This bridge is badly deteriorated and is in need of repair. It is also sinking in the mud and partly blocking the stream. So much of the bridge is damaged and missing planks that it looks smaller in this photo than the actual size. Measuring the supports showed that the old bridge was originally 6 foot wide by 10 foot long. This size was mentioned to the Conservation Commission. The old bridge would be entirely removed.

This location is about 10 feet up stream of the current bridge location. The banks are one to two feet above the water level. The previous picture is just out of the frame to the right.

This photo is taken from the east side (away from the house) and looks toward the house. The pond is to the right. The bridge is in the weeds to the left of center. The tree at the right of the photo is also visible at the left of the next photo.

The house is in the bright spot top center of the frame. The dam shows to the right. The propesed new location of the bridge is just left of the dam. The current bridge is just out of the frame to the left.

This photo is shot standing on the bridge. A few boards are visible at the bottom of the frame. The dam is visible at the top of the frame.
